Call for Abstracts & Papers

WeCNLP will accept two types of submissions for posters:

  • Abstracts describing original, completed or ongoing, unpublished research. We welcome abstract submissions focusing on theory, methodology, as well as applications in all areas related to NLP. We also welcome abstract submissions on negative results as well as submissions highlighting challenges faced in industrial or academic settings. Abstract submissions should follow the ACL 2021 template.

  • Full papers ‘as is’ that are accepted to other peer-reviewed conferences or workshops (e.g. ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICLR, etc.). In the submission, please state where your paper was accepted. The paper submission must be anonymized for blind review.

Authors of accepted abstracts and papers will be asked to present their work in a virtual poster session. Selected abstracts and papers will be presented both as a lightning talk and at the poster session. All abstract and paper submissions should be anonymous, and will be peer-reviewed in a double-blind manner. Since previously accepted papers have been peer-reviewed elsewhere, they will receive less detailed review notes from the WeCNLP committee. Papers submitted to other venues that are not yet accepted should be reworked into Abstract submissions.

Please use the CMT online submission page. Submission page closes on July 31st at 11:59PM Anywhere on Earth (AoE).

Important Dates

  • July 31, 2021 August 14, 2021 – Abstract & paper submission deadline (11:59PM AoE).

  • September 17, 2021 September 30, 2021 – Notifications to authors of acceptance.

  • October 29, 2021 – WeCNLP Summit

WeCNLP is committed to providing an inclusive summit to participants with diverse needs, academic interests, and socio-demographic backgrounds. There are numerous barriers that limit various participants’ groups ability to attend our conferences. Our whole community benefits when we strive to remove those barriers and everyone feels welcome at the event and can fully participate! Accordingly, WeCNLP will strive toward striking a balance across these different dimensions to ensure more inclusion and diversity in event participation. Hence, we encourage submissions to indicate (voluntarily) any distinguishing diversity factors such as race, gender, etc.

Abstracts

Style guidelines:

  • Abstracts must not include identifying information.

  • Abstracts should follow the ACL 2021 template.

  • Abstracts must be up to 2 pages, excluding references.

  • Do not include any supplementary files with your submission.

Content guidelines:

  • Your abstract should stand alone, without linking to a longer paper or supplement.

  • You should convey motivation and give some technical details of the approach used.

  • While we appreciate that space is limited, some experimental results are likely to improve reviewers' opinions of your abstract.

Full papers

Authors may submit 'as is' any full conference paper that has been accepted by some other conference or workshop (e.g. ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICLR, etc.), with only changes to ensure the double blind review process. In your submission, please state where and when your paper was accepted/presented.

Review Process

Abstracts will be reviewed by at least two reviewers, who will use the following criteria in a double-blind review process:

  • Is this abstract/paper appropriate for WeCNLP? I.e. Does it describe research in NLP?

  • Does the abstract/paper describe work that is novel and/or an interesting application?

  • Does the abstract/paper adequately convey the material that will be presented?

Full papers have been peer-reviewed elsewhere, and will receive less detailed review notes from the WeCNLP committee.
